We are excited to introduce you to Beakers & Bugs, a science and art company coming to South West Florida, that brings a variety of unique science party themes and amazing live insects experiences for children. “Ladybug Lori” is a veteran, experienced STEM instructor and has been teaching since 2004, we can’t wait for you to meet her in our latest interview below!
What sparked the idea for Beakers &Bugs?
My goal was to bring quality STEM enrichment programs to school aged children in a small class setting and to provide the best experience for the student. I wanted to blend my zoology husbandry experience with my training and knowledge working with a national children’s STEM company.
When did you decide to expand to the SWFL area?
Beakers and Bugs has been established in Broward County for over 15 years. Recently we were given the opportunity to present some summer programs with several Collier County libraries. The response and feedback were overwhelmingly positive with full classes and waitlists for all events. We quickly realized there was a demand for our brand of science entertainment, in Collier County.
What programs do you offer for children?
Beakers & Bugs offers a fun science programming geared toward Pre-k through 5th grade children. Our most popular program would be our many live insect presentations! Our amazing insects, combined with our interactive age-appropriate art activities, provide for a unique educational experience that sets us apart from others. Our variety of invertebrate programs include topics such as their lifecycles, biology, and identification. We also offer many STEM programs on themed topics such as Dinosaurs, Southwest Deserts, Volcanos, Gem and mineral searches and more. Our program’s durations will depend on the age of the students and/or time

Are your programs available for schools and libraries as well as private families?
Absolutely! Beakers & Bugs will also customize school programs to meet Florida State standards, earn Girl scout badges, coordinate with summer camp programs, teach home school groups, and library events. Our company also loves working with the local community for holiday events and more!
Do you also offer birthday parties?
Yes! Our live insect presentations are the MOST requested party that we get asked to do. We also do fun wizard themed parties with several themes based on the books and movies. Most party programs are 45-50 minutes in duration and you can learn more on our website here.
What is your favorite part about introducing STEM learning to children?
I love teaching a young student about insects in Pre-k, and then some years later, I see the student (who is taller than me) pulling me aside and telling me how much they loved my bugs classes!
